El Super Opening Soon in Fresno: A New Chapter for the Former Sears Building
Exciting things are happening at Manchester Center in Central Fresno! Ethan Conrad Properties is proud to welcome El Super, a full-service Hispanic grocery store, to the former Sears building located at 3636 N. Blackstone Ave. With plans to open in June, El Super is not only revitalizing a major retail space but also creating a significant economic impact by hiring up to 140 employees.
A Fresh Vision for a Landmark Space
The 52,896-square-foot building—once home to a Sears department store for over 50 years—was acquired by Sacramento-based Ethan Conrad Properties in recent years. Since then, space has been undergoing a transformation. What was once a shuttered storefront is being brought back to life with a vibrant, community-focused business that reflects the diverse character of the area.
About El Super
El Super is a well-known Hispanic grocery chain with 69 locations across California and the southwestern U.S. Known for its affordable pricing, culturally relevant products, and welcoming atmosphere, El Super offers everything from fresh meat and seafood counters to a full tortilla and pandeiro. Customers can also enjoy prepared foods like ceviche, burritos, pupusas, and beverages like aguas frescas—bringing both convenience and culture to the table.
Hiring Locally, Serving Locally
In preparation for the store opening, El Super is hosting a job fair on May 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the nearby Smart & Final Extra! store (also part of the same company) at 2425 Blackstone Ave. The company is seeking local talent to fill roles such as department managers, assistant managers, bakers, meat cutters, cake decorators, and more.
Continued Growth at Ethan Conrad Properties
This new addition continues Ethan Conrad Properties’ mission to transform underutilized commercial spaces into vibrant destinations that support local communities and drive economic opportunities. Alongside other successful tenants like Ross and dd’s DISCOUNTS, which opened in the building in 2021, El Super represents the next exciting step in reimagining this high-traffic corridor of Fresno.
Stay tuned for more updates as we near the grand opening—and if you’re in the Fresno area, be sure to stop by and experience El Super for yourself this summer!
